08/27/10

Hi all,

The OCAC library will be returning to its regular schedule next Monday, August 30th, but our regular hours have changed. Starting next week, we will no longer be open on Sundays. Our “new” regular hours are:

Mon – Thursday 8:30-7;

Fri 8:30-5;

Sat 12-5.

Sun: CLOSED

If circumstances change, there may be a slight chance in the future that we’ll be able to reopen our doors on Sundays, or, if not Sundays, we might extend our hours in some other way. We'll be sure to keep everyone informed of any changes.

Thank you in advance for your understanding. Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

I hope you’re enjoying the final days of summer break. See you soon!

Best,

Kevin

04/2010

Hi All,

Next Monday and Tuesday (04/19 and 04/20), the library will be “OFFLINE” as WCCLS works on upgrading Polaris, our Integrated Library System (ILS). That means, we will not have access to the library catalog to search for books or to other records in the system, including patron registration records. In order to check out materials during this time, we will need both your library card AND a photo I.D.  All transactions will be written down by hand in a log book. Later we will reconcile those transactions with the new upgraded system.

Also, starting today, ActivePAC is no longer available in the library. The library catalog can only be searched via www.wccls.org (a.k.a. the “PowerPAC” and “the site that can be used from home”) or through the ILS by library staff. The ActivePAC is scheduled to be removed by WCCLS from all member libraries in October 2010, but, due to a variety of reasons, the library elected to remove the program now instead of waiting 6 months. If ActivePAC was your primary resource for searching the library catalog and you would like a refresher on how to use the online version, drop by the library or schedule an appointment with me and we can go over it together.

We apologize in advance for any inconvenience this may cause.

Cheerios,

Kevin

01/2010:

Hi All,

The OCAC Library will not be able to receive deliveries starting Thursday 01/21 until Thursday, 01/28. The College is currently constructing sidewalks along the perimeter of the campus and, starting tomorrow, work crews will be pouring cement and no vehicles will be permitted to drive over the sidewalk as it cures.

This means if you have requested any materials from other WCCLS libraries, those requests will be significantly delayed. I’m sorry about any inconvenience this may cause. It also means that our materials (returned to other WCCLS libraries) will be significantly delayed in the process of coming back to us.

During this time, the library will be open during its regular hours (Mon – Thurs 8:30 – 7; Fri 8:30 – 5; Sat & Sun 12 – 5) , so feel free (as always) to come visit us in person and check-out our materials. But, if you need something from another library, you can 1) place a request as usual and wait until it comes; 2) place a request and change the "destination library" to a library close by like the Cedar Mill Public Library; 3) physically go to the owning library and check out the material there (you might want to call ahead and have a librarian pull the item or items for you); or 4) contact me and we can talk about your options. See: www.wccls.org for details about other libraries.

My current understanding is that regular courier deliveries will be able to resume again next Thursday (01/28), but I’ll notify you if anything changes. Please get in touch with me if you have any questions about any of this...

Best,

Kevin

06/2009: Hi all there have been a few changes to library policies regarding student accounts. Please read what follows carefully and let me know if you have any questions about the changes. Thanks! --Kevin

Fines for OCAC Students: OCAC students do not accrue overdue fines for late OCAC materials or items from other WCCLS member libraries. However, students will not be able to check-out materials if 1) any item is overdue and cannot be renewed, or 2) any damaged material charges, replacement charges, or collection agency charges exist on their account. Fines may result in blocks on student records.
